Mother of pearl
Mother-of-pearl is an organic material produced by mollusks, such as oysters and mussels. Also known as "cultured pearl". It is a solid, lustrous substance, which is often used in the manufacture of jewelry, art objects and decorations. Mother-of-pearl is composed of thin layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin, a complex protein that gives it its strength and resistance. The layers are arranged in a sheet structure, very thin layers of aragonite crystals embedded in an organic matrix.
These layers reflect light in a spectacular way and give the mother-of-pearl its shimmering appearance. Mother-of-pearl can be of different colors, ranging from white to black, pink, green and blue. Mother-of-pearl is a precious material and sought after for its natural beauty and durability. It is a unique material due to its exceptional physical and aesthetic properties such as its ability to reflect light in a particular way that creates a shimmering and iridescent effect.
For our jewelry we mainly use shells such as akoya and abalone. For ecological reasons, we use mother-of-pearl from Korea. Bathed in hot water and then cut with a die, the mother-of-pearl is shaped into the desired shape. The next step is to varnish, lacquer or engrave, by hand in France or Italy. We use a workshop that works with haute couture to dye and engrave our mother-of-pearl. The brand's graphics are developed by Aurel Création.
Each piece of mother-of-pearl is unique, due to its color, its roundness, its weight... Mother-of-pearl thus makes each piece of Aurel Création jewelry unique.
